LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR HOSTS RECEPTION COMMEMORATING
175TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY
TORONTO – The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will host the Ontario Black History Society at a reception to mark the passing of the British Imperial Act in 1833 which abolished slavery in Britain and its colonies.
“Sir John Graves Simcoe, Upper Canada’s first Lieutenant Governor was one of Canada’s earliest abolitionists and ahead of his time.”
said the Honourable David Onley. “I am honoured to be among his successors.”
The reception will also feature a performance by Canadian jazz singer Tiki Mercury-Clarke.
