JOIN LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR IN LITERACY EVENT

TORONTO – TorontoFC goalkeeper, Mr. Greg Sutton, and Toronto Argonaut cornerback, Mr. Byron Parker, will join the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and the Jays Care Foundation to speak with students about literacy and his Book Drive at Chief Dan George Elementary School in Scarborough on January 11, 2008.

Senior members of Toronto Police Services, the Ontario Provincial Police, and Land Forces Central Area of the Canadian Forces will also attend because of their close participation with the Book Drive.

Together, these special guests will read a humorous children’s book to 350 students and explain the importance of literacy while supporting the Lieutenant Governor’s Book Drive. Ontarians can donate books until January 18 at any Toronto Police Services station or OPP detachment throughout the province.

In the tradition of former-Lieutenant Governor James Bartleman, the Honourable David Onley launched a Book Drive on January 1 to collect brand new children’s books for Aboriginal youth in Ontario’s Northern Native communities.

Media are welcomed and encouraged to attend this wonderful event that will support Ontario’s youth and help fight illiteracy with the help of some of Toronto’s most talented athletes.
