A MESSAGE FROM THE
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF ONTARIO
ON THE OCCASIONS OF
RAMADAN, ROSH HASHANAH, AND YOM KIPPUR
TORONTO – In the name of The Queen, and on behalf of all Ontarians, I send warm greetings to Ontarians of the Muslim and Jewish faiths, who are celebrating the first day of Ramadan, Rosh Hashanah and the upcoming Yom Kippur.
Ramadan is the holiest season in the Islamic faith, commemorating the revelation of the Qu’ran. In the coming month, through daily fasting, prayer, contemplation, and acts of charity, Muslims will renew their commitment to lead lives of integrity and compassion.
On this day, the blowing of the shofar will herald a new year and a time of reflection and renewal for the Jewish people. During these high holy days, men and women will contemplate their faith and prepare spiritually and personally for the New Year.
The province of Ontario has been built by people of different faiths, and Muslim and Jewish Ontarians, from all walks of life, have contributed greatly to our peace and prosperity. We are proud of our diverse society, in which people of all religious beliefs worship in freedom.
