Invite the Lieutenant Governor

Each year, the Lieutenant Governor attends hundreds of special events, ceremonies, and celebrations throughout Ontario. To invite His Honour to an event, please provide details in a signed letter on your organization’s letterhead a minimum of six weeks prior to the event. Invitations sent by email cannot be accepted.

Your letter should include the following information:

  • an outline of the event, including the date, time, venue, and the role you would like the Lieutenant Governor to play: visit, deliver a speech, present an award, attend a performance, etc.
  • a proposed timed itinerary for the Lieutenant Governor, including the arrival time and place, by whom His Honour will be greeted, names of the host and master of ceremonies, event sequence, speech length, and the departure time and place
  • details of the physical accessibility to the venue, including any places the Lieutenant Governor would be invited to go.
  • the number of people expected to participate, and whether they are volunteers, directors, members of the public, etc.
  • background on the hosting group, including its registered charitable number if it is a non-profit organization
  • the name, address, telephone, fax, email, and website address of the host organization and event co-ordinator

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor endeavours to acknowledge all letters of invitation received within a reasonable amount of time. To enquire about an invitation that has already been sent, please call the Manager of Stakeholder Relations and Planing at 416-325-7789. Alternatively, send an email to lt.gov@ontario.ca. Please note that we cannot advise on invitations that have not yet been received by mail or fax.
