In 1983 the Honourable John Black Aird worked with Variety Village to establish the Lieutenant Governor’s Games in order to encourage and challenge children and young people living with disabilities. Each year at the Games, the Lieutenant Governor presents trophies to recognize achievement and also awards each participant with a commemorative medallion. for an individual participating for the first time who best exemplifies the enthusiasm, spirit, and joy of participating in the Games
