The Honourable Hilary M. Weston established this award as a millennium initiative in the year 2000, to honour and encourage youth voluntarism, a rapidly rising trend in Ontario. The award is offered to an exemplary volunteer among the graduating students in each of Ontario’s approximately 1100 secondary schools. Each student receives a personalized certificate and a lapel pin which features symbols chosen by the Lieutenant Governor currently in office.
